Hoitenga: Senate Republicans fight for Michigan workers over out-of-state special interests to save tip credit

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Michele Hoitenga, R-Manton, released the following statement after the Senate on Thursday approved legislation to preserve the state’s tip credit system, a significant step forward to avert economically crippling new mandates set to take effect next week:

“While Democrats failed to act for six months, Republicans have fought tooth and nail, and today, we finally took one step closer to saving 50,000 service jobs and one in five restaurants. Passing this bill sends the message that we value the voices of people in the service industry and our small businesses above the corrupt voices of out-of-state special interest groups.”

“Those in the service industry should know this: When Senate Democrats get bogged down in political charades and inaction, Senate Republicans will be here fighting for you and your livelihood.”
