LANSING, Mich. — The state Senate on Thursday adopted Sen. Michele Hoitenga’s resolution declaring April 18, 2025, as Lineman Appreciation Day to honor the tireless efforts of linemen who have worked to restore power across Northern Michigan in the wake of last month’s damaging ice storm.
The severe weather left thousands without electricity, disrupting daily life and creating significant challenges. Linemen from across the state and beyond worked around the clock in hazardous conditions to repair power lines, replace damaged infrastructure and restore essential services.
“These brave men and women put their lives on the line to keep our communities powered and safe,” said Hoitenga, R-Manton. “Their relentless dedication through grueling hours during this crisis and every day since deserves our deepest gratitude. This resolution is one way to show the immense appreciation felt by the thousands of families and businesses across Northern Michigan.”
Senate Resolution 26 highlights the critical role linemen play in maintaining Michigan’s electrical grid and ensuring public safety, particularly during extreme weather events. It also calls on Michiganders to express appreciation for linemen’s service and sacrifice.
Hoitenga said she encourages residents to join in celebrating Lineman Appreciation Day by personally thanking linemen in their communities for their hard work and contributions.
